Who are we?
Toronto Tango Academy was founded by Tugrul Avci, an Argentine tango instructor, DJ, and event organizer with over a decade of experience in the tango world. His tango journey began in 2010 and has since evolved through active involvement in tango communities in Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Barcelona and Toronto.
Tugrul is known for his vigorous technique, precise movement quality, and deep commitment to authentic tango. His training and experience have given him a strong foundation that allows him to shape an approach to dance that values musicality, connection, and clarity of movement.
His teaching philosophy is rooted in clear structure, strong fundamentals, and continuous refinement, supporting students in developing confident, expressive, and technically sound tango. Through regular classes and special workshops, Tugrul is dedicated to nurturing tango excellence and contributing to the growth of the Toronto tango community.
