A Thought on Intuition

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that whenever we can’t explain a movement with clear mechanics, we tend to call it “intuition.” While intuition certainly has its place, relying on it too early often leaves students guessing instead of understanding. Guessing can work eventually, but it usually makes the learning process slower and far more frustrating.

Real intuition doesn’t appear out of nowhere. It develops after we build a solid understanding of how the body moves and why something works. Once that foundation is there, intuition becomes incredibly valuable, not because it replaces knowledge, but because it grows from it.
